Uncle George’s Letters

Letter 16/01/2008

Dear Pastor Sophos,

May I wish you, a bit belated I agree, your good wife and all the people who live and work at the Noupoort Christian care Centre, every blessing for the year 2008. a year nearer to the Day of the Lord when “time shall be no more”.

Perhaps it is my advancing age, but it seems to me as though events around us are pointing to His imminent return, and a sense of urgency pervades my thinking in everything as I look around. In reading the parable of the wedding banquet (Matthew 22:1-14) the other day, certain words seemed to stand out for me. The king’s instructions to his servants “invite to the banquet anyone you find…” (vs.9), and the servants actions in verse 10 – “…gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad…”

There is no time left now for selective behaviour in the advancement of the Kingdom, complacency and unconcern are luxuries the child of God can no longer afford. In reading the rather bitter little poem “Backward Christian Soldiers” (the parody on the great hymn, Onward Christian Soldiers) I came across the lines again, “Sit here then ye people, join our useless throngs, Blend with ours your voices, in the feeble songs, Blessings, ease and comfort, ask from Christ the King, With our modern thinking, we won’t do a thing.”

How I thank the Heavenly Father for you good people there at Noupoort who are at the forefront of winning those who are unlovely in the minds of so many, back from the ways of destruction and into his marvelous light. I pray daily for you, that the Holy Spirit would be your strength and encouragement, your wisdom and your power.

I rejoice in the knowledge that the Christian Soldiers are still going “onward”, and thank God that you are seeking to enhance His Kingdom and His Righteousness. May I remind you once again of a verse you know well? As you seek to advance His Kingdom and His Righteousness, His word promises “…all these things will be given to you as well…” Matthew 6:33

In the precious name of Jesus – thank you for being their in your ministry, as a brother in Christ, I appreciate your faithfulness.

In Him,

George.

Letter 2

Dear Pastor Sophos,

I have been distressed lately at the media coverage that young people who have been caught up in the ways of the world are getting. In certain magazines that aim in part at our youth, much has been made of the drink and drug cultures that enslave.

In particular one thinks of people like the sad young pop icon Britney Spears and other youthful celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and so many others. One does not condemn these unhappy young people whose decisions have taken them down this sad road for they have either decided to turn from the one who gives life, or else have never heard of Him. The media in a rather hypocritical stance aimed more at increased sales than issuing a warning, blazons pictures of these unfortunate young folk and writes titillating stories about them, thereby advertising an alternative lifestyle – the lifestyle of the “hip” and the “cool”. To many of the other folk this gives ammunition to take a pharisaical stance of “God, I thank you that I am not like other men.”

How we thank you therefore that you have a ministry that reaches out to rescue the perishing and set them on a road that will bring them into the Kingdom of God.

Since reading of your ministry in the Joy magazine I have been praying daily for the Noupoort C.C.C that the Holy Spirit will empower you with His gifts to meet the needs of those in your care. I also want to encourage you my Brother, and your good wife in your striving to reach the lost.

I Believe that people like yourselves are a tremendous annoyance to satan, because the light that you shed drives out his deeds of darkness. I therefore pray earnestly that the Noupoort C.C.C be surrounded as was Elisha at Dothan(11Kings 6:14-17). That you will be knowing, as did the prophet Elisha, “Those that are with us are more than those that are with them.”

So my brother, I pray that you will see victory after victory in the lives of those who God has trusted to your care. Your service of love, and the blessed work of those who serve with you is greatly appreciated by your brothers and sisters in the Kingdom.

I rather like the picture of the Hosts of Heaven watching from heavens windows and sending up a rousing cheer as one by one the souls are set free.

May God bless you all, real good!

In Christ’s love,

George
